IKEA found an unusual way to advertise their services and products last year in Canada, by putting up posters around cities on July 1st, a popular moving day in Canada. But not just any posters, these posters were boxes, flattened and hung up on walls or made up into pyramids in the streets, free for people who needed them, they even turned into chairs. They also included offers for IKEA shops, tips for moving and packing and offers for food incase you didn’t have a kitchen set up in your new place. According to PSFK “IKEA and Leo Burnett Toronto recently won a North American Gold Effie for the campaign, which increased store traffic by 14% and sales by 24.5% over the same weekend in the previous year. That’s the same effect as opening an entire new IKEA store in that market.” Impressive for just placing some free boxes around.
